Petition to Protect Homeownership

Dear Member of Congress:

For generations of Americans, owning a home has meant owning the future -- a future of promise and fulfillment where families thrive and dreams are within reach. Not only is homeownership the foundation of much that we hold dear as Americans, it is a large and important element in the nation's economy that has the potential to add millions of jobs to boost the recovery.

Today, policymakers are threatening to eliminate our nation's long-standing commitment to homeownership. Unwarranted tax, legislative and regulatory proposals would freeze out buyers by scaling back or eliminating the mortgage interest deduction and making mortgages and small business loans much less affordable and harder to obtain.

We need your help and the help of all elected officials to:

• Protect the mortgage interest deduction.
• Make sure credit-worthy consumers and small businesses can get mortgages and loans.
• Help resolve the foreclosure crisis.
